We would like to introduce you to our company with a little background history and
explain some of the great benefits we have to offer to our employees.
Blaze Engineering, formerly Blaze Construction, was created in 1985 by Helmuth and
Marty Morgenrath and Micah Curtis with the purchase of one backhoe/loader, the JD555.
In 1986, Micah sold his share of the business to Helmuth and Marty. They hired more
employees, bought another backhoe, and took over contracts from Don McQueen as
Torre Engineering closed up shop. Dave Martin, Helmuth's right hand man, came on
board in 1988, and the company incorporated and set up shop in its current quarters in
1989. Throughout the 90's the business continued to grow, expanding its services to the
community to include paving and concrete production, as well as underground
construction and site development. Since the company began, Blaze Engineering has
weathered the vagaries of the economy and the challenges of this coastal community with
its mountain mudslides and road closures. Looking through the years, Blaze has stayed
true to its mission, building strong community relationships. We have grown into a
successful company with 25 employees, and over $2 million in annual gross sales.

Established to perpetuate Helmuth's generosity to the community
which he loved so dearly. Donations will be used to form a
permanent endowment to allow annual contributions to Big Sur
charities with special emphasis on community enrichment and
education of Big Sur's youth.
