About Us
Helmuth Morgenrath with Micah Curtis formed Blaze Construction Company in 1985 with the purchase of a loader backhoe and one dump truck. By 1989 we incorporated as Blaze Engineering, Inc. establishing a thriving business in Big Sur. Owners Helmuth and Marty Morgenrath hired more employees and acquired more equipment, building a crew of skilled workers. Throughout the 1990s the business continued to grow, expanding its services to the community to include road building, paving, concrete production, as well as underground construction, site development, and slope stabilization. In the last decades of the 20th century, and into the 21st Blaze Engineering weathered the challenges of work and life in this coastal community with its wildfires and storms, mountain mudslides, road closures, and challenges to the economy. Responding to community emergencies, we fought forest fires, helping to save our neighborhood more than once. We repaired roads, rebuilt water systems, and restored power. Blaze has stayed true to its mission; building strong community relationships and supporting the wellbeing of its employees and families.
In the new millennium, we are refining our services to meet our Big Sur community's needs. We focus on commercial and residential infrastructure development, as well as repairs and maintenance for residents and businesses. Blaze responds to the need for construction and repair of roads, water systems, septic systems, retaining walls, gate systems, house site grading and foundation excavation, utility trenching, hauling, fencing and crane work. We are fully licensed and insured.
